Lincoln Krazy Races: The Pink Cadillac Soapbox

On Sunday 15th September crowds will gather in their thousands to witness the Lincoln Krazy Races, the downhill soapbox extravaganza! Teams from across the city and beyond will launch themselves down Flaxengate in fabulous hand-crafted karts, navigating chicanes, obstacles, water and more...

And you'll never guess which nutters have entered a team...

Hurtling down a steep hill you say? In front of thousands of people you say? Wearing a silly costume?!

Ah yes, that'll be us!

I simply couldn't resist! I'm so proud of my city and I love getting involved with community events and projects with my little business and so when I heard about Krazy Races, I knew we had to do it.

The Vision...

If I can't have a vintage car in real life, I shall just have to craft one out of cardboard and spray paint.

There was no real discussion or brainstorming session when it came to deciding what the theme of our kart was going to be. It had to be 50s, sassy, pink, bad ass and camp as hell.

We are going to be making the 1950s pink Cadillac of my dreams in miniature and I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am! Think chrome, those pointy fins bits, a little tiny windscreen and heck! Maybe even pink smoke coming out the exhaust.

And obviously I'll be forcing my whole team to wear pink Bad Girls Club overalls!

Vintage Style Not Vintage Values... Money for a Good Cause!

Each team will raise money for a chosen charity and ours is Think2Speak, an incredible local organisation who work hard to support LGBTQ+ children, young people and their families to amplify voices and foster a sense of inclusion and reduce isolation.

Jailhouse Frock is built on a foundation of love and inclusivity and the shop has become known as a safe-space for the LGBTQ+ community in Lincoln. It's all about Vintage Style NOT Vintage Values at Jailhouse Frock and we will forever be very proud allies.

I would be so grateful if you could take a moment to donate to a very worthy cause and show your support for our chosen charity and our Krazy Races team!

Progress to Date

Since none of us are engineers, we decided it would be best for us (and safest for Jeremy the driver) to buy a second-hand soapbox base and build our design onto it.

I managed to find one on Facebook Marketplace. We drove down to Cambridge to pick it up a few weeks ago and it's perfect! The previous owners were fishmongers and had crafted the old engine-powered go-kart into a fishing boat gravity kart.

Now completely stripped back, this is where we begin! We have the bare bones of our kart and we have started sourcing all of our materials to build the tiniest pink Cadillac Lincoln has ever seen!

We've roped my lovely dad in to help us and I can't wait to show you the progress as we go over the next week or two. But for now, here's a little snap of the build team and the Cadillac-to-be.
